Health notice

Read this before you begin. It matters more than anything else on this page.

Wilderness 40 asks you to fast, to train for 45 minutes, and to keep that up for forty consecutive days. That is a demanding programme and it is not appropriate for everyone.

Speak to a doctor before you start if any of these apply to you:

Stop, and seek medical help, if you feel faint, confused, unusually weak, short of breath, or unwell in a way you do not recognise. No streak is worth your health. The app will let you start again; your body may not.

Wilderness 40 is a self-directed discipline tracker. It is not medical advice, not a treatment, not therapy, and not a substitute for professional care of any kind. Nothing in the app has been reviewed by a clinician. You choose your own fast and your own training, and you remain responsible for whether they are safe for you.

The app is also not pastoral care or spiritual direction. If you are struggling with your mental health, speak to your GP, or in the UK contact the Samaritans on 116 123, free, any time.

Use your judgement over the rules. "Zero mercy" is a framing device for a habit tracker. It is not a reason to ignore your body, skip medication, or push through something that feels wrong.

Privacy policy

The short version: Wilderness 40 has no accounts and no database. Your journal, your fast, your streak, and your name never leave your device.

What stays on your device

Everything you type into the app is stored in your browser's local storage on the device you are using. That includes your progress and sealed days, your chosen fast, the name you sign the covenant with and the name of your witness, your Evening Watch journal entries, and your run history. None of it is transmitted to us. We cannot read it, recover it, or delete it for you. Clearing your browser data will erase it permanently.

What we do receive

Only if you buy the app:

Your email address — collected by Stripe at checkout, used to send your unlock key
Payment confirmation — that a payment succeeded, and its reference
Your unlock key — generated from the payment reference

We never receive your card details. Those go directly to Stripe and are never seen by this website or by us.

Who processes data for us

Stripe — payment processing and email collection
Resend — sending your key email
Vercel — hosting and server logs
Google Fonts — serves the typefaces used on these pages

Google Fonts is loaded from Google's servers, which means your IP address is shared with Google when a page loads. If you would rather that did not happen, a content blocker will prevent it; the app still works, in a different typeface.

Server logs

Our hosting keeps short-lived technical logs of requests to the site. When a purchase completes, that log entry includes the buyer's email address and the generated unlock key, so that a key can be recovered if an email fails to arrive. Logs are retained by our host for a limited period and are not used for any other purpose.

Cookies and analytics

We set no cookies. We run no advertising pixels and nothing that follows you to other websites.

We do count page views, using Vercel Web Analytics. It records anonymous, aggregated information about visits — which pages are opened, roughly where in the world from, and what kind of device — so that we can see whether anyone is finding the app. It does not use cookies, does not store an identifier on your device, and cannot follow you across other sites. We cannot tell who you are from it, we do not build a profile of you, and we have nothing to sell to anyone.

Analytics never sees anything you type into the app. Your journal, your fast, your progress, and the names on your covenant stay on your device, as described above.

If you would rather not be counted at all, a content blocker or a privacy-focused browser will usually stop the analytics script loading. The app works exactly the same either way.

How long we keep things

Payment records are kept by Stripe for as long as tax and accounting law requires, currently six years in the UK. Key emails sit in Resend's sending history. We hold no separate customer list or mailing list, and we will not email you again unless you contact us.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and object to how we use it. Write to the address in the contact section and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Wilderness 40 is not intended for under-18s and we do not knowingly sell to them.

Terms of sale and use

One payment, one licence, no subscription. What follows is the detail.

What you are buying

A single personal licence to the paid features of Wilderness 40: sealing days, the guided reading plan, the Evening Watch journal, a custom sixth requirement, and the attempt record. It is a one-off payment of £7.99. There is no subscription and no recurring charge of any kind.

How your licence works

On purchase you receive an unlock key. It is shown on screen immediately and emailed to you. The key is derived from your payment reference, so it never expires and it is always the same key for that purchase.

The app has no accounts, which means the unlock lives in the browser you used. If you change device, change browser, or clear your browser data, enter your key again to restore access. Keep the email. If you lose it, contact us with the email address you paid with and we will recover your key.

What you may not do

The licence is for you. Please do not share, publish, sell, or distribute your key, and do not copy or resell the app itself. The scripture text is from the King James Version and is in the public domain; everything else — the code, the design, the reading plan, the writing — remains ours.

What we do and do not promise

We will make a reasonable effort to keep the app available and working. We cannot promise it will be uninterrupted or free of faults, that it will work on every device or browser, or that your data will survive a browser clearing it. Progress lives on your device; keeping it is your responsibility, and adding the app to your home screen makes that much more likely.

Nothing here limits your legal rights as a consumer, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for the app.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. Your existing licence is not affected and we will not start charging you again for what you have already bought.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

Refunds and cancellation

The simple version

If Wilderness 40 is not for you, email us within 14 days of buying it and we will refund you in full. No explanation needed. We would rather give you your £7.99 back than have you feel stuck with something you do not want.

Your statutory rights

For digital content bought online, UK consumers normally have 14 days to change their mind. That right can be waived when the content is supplied immediately, and because your key is issued the moment you pay, that waiver would technically apply here. We have chosen not to rely on it. The 14-day refund above is offered regardless.

If something is broken

If the app is faulty or not as described, you are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the 14-day window does not limit that. Tell us what went wrong and we will put it right or refund you.
